Emmys 2024 Review: 9 Ups & 7 Downs
Ups...
9. Anthony Anderson's Solid Hosting Job
Though Anthony Anderson likely wasn't high on anyone's wishlist for hosting an Emmy broadcast, he ultimately proved the pure professional when it came to hosting in a snappy, if undeniably safe, fashion.
Coming mere days after Jo Koy disastrously bombed as host of the Golden Globes surely didn't hurt him any, but it was refreshing to see Anderson avoid typical hosting tropes, like kicking off with a dull roast of the assembled nominees, or being conspicuously absent for long stretches of the broadcast.
Anderson instead started off with a song, frequently returned to keep the show on-track and on-message, and kept out of the way when he wasn't needed.
It wasn't a hosting performance for the ages, and the aforementioned play-off gag with his mother definitely should've been cut, but how often have you seen an Emmy host gamely slip into the rubber man suit from American Horror Story?
