14. The Get Down (Season 1 - Part 1)

Baz Luhrmann serves up a characteristically lavish, flamboyant look at the birth of hip-hop, punk and disco in 1970s New York, which while sometimes a little unfocused, is propelled by strong style and compelling performances.

Relative newcomer Justice Smith and Dope's Shameik Moore are a terrific pairing as two youngsters from the Bronx looking to make their mark on the world, abetted by a strong supporting cast who help evoke a solid sense of time and place even when Luhrmann's usual excesses occasionally threaten to take over.

It's an impressive start with the second-half of season one set to drop sometime this year, so at just six episodes of investment, you owe it to yourself to at least give it a chance.
