Every American Horror Story Season Ranked From Worst To Best
5. Apocalypse
The Antichrist is real, he is here, and he is the son of Tate Langdon. Apocalypse connects the dots that are the previous seasons in a way that no other does. Aside from the paternal link to the first series, the witches from Coven played a huge part as Madison Montgomery visited the Murder House and its characters, and Cordelia Foxx tried to free Queenie from James Patrick March in the Hotel Cortez.
While revisiting the witches from season three is a huge tick for Apocalypse, they are so heavily featured that the showrunners may as well have simply moved forward with Coven II, a concept that would likely have been a lot more enjoyable.
The structure of the season was also slightly jarring, as the majority of the second half was one big flashback, almost a prequel within the story itself. It is easy to think the story would have been more compelling if the order was shifted, having the build up to the titular catastrophe come before the arrival of Michael Langdon.
These criticisms aside, Apocalypse is a strong season, more than a little bit carried by the crossover with season three's Coven.
