8. Supergirl Season 4

Supergirl decided to get political in its fourth season when long-time alien supporter Ben Lockwood became the villainous Agent Liberty, using fear tactics to turn the public against alien immigrants. Naturally, the Girl of Steel attempted to counter this with her messages of hope, which opened up the stage to a ton of differing views. The irony, however, was that these unrealistic situations were simply metaphors for real world issues.

While the political tone wasn't for everybody, it certainly resulted in some of the strongest writing that the show had ever seen. Though that resulted in it feeling somewhat less triumphant than before, it ensured that it stood out as the best Arrowverse show during the 2018-2019 TV season. And the comic book purists sure got what they came for as the season approached its conclusion.

While the handling of the Red Daughter's arc was problematic, the payoff was worth it, as it led to the long-awaited debut of Lex Luthor - who was revealed to be the master manipulator behind everything that had gone wrong that year. And even though he was only in three episodes, Jon Cryer used his little time wisely, turning in an outstanding performance that solidified this Lex as the real Big Bad of the season and earned himself a place among the greatest Mr. Luthors of all time.
