Every Arrowverse Season Ranked From Worst To Best
19. The Flash Season 4
Though in a completely different league than the previous entry, The Flash's fourth season also brought dull days with it.
The creative choice to finally have a non-speedster villain was admirable, no doubt, but perhaps choosing someone like DeVoe was just a little too ambitious. That's not to take anything away from the development of the character because, quite frankly, he was brilliant (as was Neil Sandilands' performance). The problem, however, was that, like Damien Darhk, he was too powerful for his respective show.
As his brain was able to anticipate everything Team Flash would do, he remained one step ahead of them all season long. Thus, in order to drag the season out for as long as possible, the writers had to write the bus of metahumans into his overall plan. This gave the Scarlet Speedster a chance to get ahead of The Thinker... and resulted in a ton of incredibly dull villain-of-the-week episodes.
Moreover, the emphasis on the well-developed DeVoe made all of Team Flash (including Barry himself) seem less interesting while the exaggerated tone resulted in the show feeling a lot cornier than it needed to be.
