18. The Flash Season 5

No doubt a major improvement over the fourth offering, The Flash's fifth season once again placed the focus on the West-Allen extended family - and it certainly benefited from it, as the arrival of Nora West-Allen from the future switched things up, and allowed us to see how the core couple of Barry and Iris functioned as parents. Unfortunately, a number of glaring issues prevented it from emulating the success of previous family-centric seasons.

While Jessica Parker Kennedy portrayed Nora to perfection, the character was written in such a way that it often felt hard to root for her. Sure, she was a rookie speedster, but there are only so many times you can make the same mistakes before it gets repetitive. And repetitive it was, as Nora continued to defy her seasoned parents and did her own thing - to the detriment of the mission (and the show).

That, however, sums up the season in a nutshell because it spent too long going around in circles and nothing exemplified that more than Cicada - who was nothing more than a one-note villain who showed up, grunted and flew off when things went south.

The season felt a lot longer than it needed to be and only thrived when it wasn't focusing on its main narrative, with episodes like 'King Shark vs. Gorilla Grodd' and the season finale 'Legacy' stealing the show - the latter of which, in all fairness, is one of the best episodes The Flash has ever produced.
