The year of the Writer's Strike was a difficult one for a number of big TV shows and Battlestar Galactica was no exception. The fourth season was essentially cut in half (and the final episodes were packaged in some places as 'Season 4.5', which they will be for the purposes of this list).

Beginning with the terrifying battle at the Ionian Nebula and concluding with the discovery of a planet called 'Earth', the colonial fleet is in a dark place and four members of it have been hearing the ethereal tones of Jimmy Hendrix, bringing them together to reveal that they are four of the final five Cylons, hidden amongst the human fleet in plain sight.

This season is notable for several storylines, the Cylon civil war, the cult of Gaius Baltar's women and the one which leads Starbuck to begin following her visions, tracking down the shattered Basestar that houses the newly rebellious Cylons. The attack on the Resurrection Hub brings back everyone's favourite Warrior Princess turned Cylon and she attempts to provide the final clues to Earth's location.
