Every Black Mirror Episode Ranked Worst To Best
13. Playtest
What if you could immerse yourself in an interactive game that adapts to your memories and targets your fears? That's the question that season three's terrifying Playtest asks and answers, with an episode that might just be the scariest installment of the series.
Following the death of his father and estrangement from his mother, apprehensive world traveller Cooper (Wyatt Russell) allows himself to test out a daring new game courtesy of a shady tech company. His mind altered, Cooper comes face-to-face with his most debilitating fears and quickly goes insane.
An incredibly tense Black Mirror yarn, Playtest is the closest thing to outright horror the show has ever conjured. Not only does it force you to wonder about your own fears and what kind of things you'd see in such a situation, but it also makes the whole thing extra enrapturing by making Cooper such a likeable and just protagonist, tragically unable to escape his own mind.
