12. Hang The DJ

Romance plays a frequent role in Black Mirror's most accomplished works, and though Hang the DJ isn't quite up to par with the show's greatest installments, its constantly twisting love story is one of the most engaging in the show's history.

The episode follows Frank (Joe Cole) and Amy (Georgina Campbell), who live in a world run by The System. Here, The System controls everyone's dating life and pairs people up for relationships on a temporary or permanent basis. Defying The System, Frank and Amy fall in love and plot an escape from their reality.

For the most part, Hang the DJ is a sweet and tender romantic drama that casually mocks and plays homage to various real-world dating apps, and sports two lovable performances from Cole and Campbell.

The final twist, which plays Black Mirror's overdone "It was all a simulation" card with little warning, undoes much of the emotional groundwork of the episode, but isn't enough to completely ruin the joy of Frank and Amy's journey.
