22. Rachel, Jack And Ashley Too
Miley Cyrus should have been a great fit for Black Mirror's style, but unfortunately she ended up trapped inside a maddeningly inconsistent and wasteful episode, given little to work with. Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too falls down with its lead star, and never really recovers.
That's not all, though. The story - which follows an AI doll based on a famous singer called Ashely O (Cyrus) - is too paper thin to contain itself. It says some interesting things about consumer culture and the allure of the celebrity, but between its typically striking visuals and Cyrus's brilliant but underused performance, there's painfully little left to chew on.
Season five of Black Mirror was a ponderous misfire in a show that has always been consistently exciting, and Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too shows just how much it dropped the ball.
