While they are often compared to the Saibamen in regards to being miniature lackeys, they are far more powerful. Powerful enough in fact that most of the Z Warriors fall victim to them, finding themselves unable to overpower them.
Cell created the juniors in order to get Gohan angry, since the latter said his power would increase if he got upset. This plan works, as after seeing his friends being beat up by the Cell Juniors, Gohan turns Super Saiyan 2. A first for the series up to that point. After the transformation Gohan makes short work of them, killing them all in single blows.
