Every Episode Of The Witcher Ranked Worst To Best

6. Before A Fall

The Witcher
Netflix

This episode suffers purely for the fact that it ultimately feels like the only chapter included to set up the next segment. Whilst this is a crucial thing to do, especially seeing as the finale was to be so epic, it still forces Before a Fall to suffer.

The contention between the Sorceresses' Lodge and the Brotherhood is fascinating, and the introduction of the Nilfgaardian threat makes for some great conflict. Additionally to this, the character work on display for Yennefer is incredibly strong, as taking her back to Aretuza means that she can explore her past and future in a very compelling way, especially when interacting with aspiring sorceresses.

We also get some great conflict between Geralt and Queen Calanthe that sets up for the eventual coming together of our lead and Princess Cirilla. Still, again the critical issue is that it ultimately feels like it's building to something else and that strips it of personality.

Thus far, although there has been a tremendous overarching narrative, each segment has felt unique and episodic in a way. Every chapter deals with a different subject or premise, but here it's all intrinsically linked to the overall story, and that makes it feel a little less characterful.
