Every Kaiju Confirmed To Appear In Netflix’s Godzilla Singular Point So Far
4. Anguirus
The giant Ankylosaurus kaiju Anguirus makes his first
appearance since the 2004 film, Godzilla: Final Wars. The majority of classic
depictions of Anguirus portray him as an ally to Godzilla, being his friend and
even being able to talk with the King of the Monsters. Currently we don’t know
if we will see inspiration of this interpretation of Anguirus in Godzilla
Singular Point.
Similarly to Godzilla and Rodan, the rougher and exaggerated design elements have been applied here to Anguirus. While the Ankylosaurus kaiju has always been seen with a spiked back and head, Anguirus’ Godzilla Singular Point design turned this up to 11. Large curved spikes are seen protruding from all across Anguirus’ back, head and body, with even his legs and underbelly having some minimal spikes across them.
Another interesting thing to note about Anguirus from the trailer is his quadrupedal abilities. Most Toho depictions of Anguirus, particularly in the Shōwa era, often show the kaiju propping up his entire body on his front legs while his back legs are simply dragged behind him. In stark contrast to this, the Ankylosaurus kaiju is seen running in the trailer. We don’t get to see any of Anguirus’ abilities in the trailer, so it is unknown if he retains the ability to curl up into a spiked ball like he can in Godzilla: Final Wars or the ability to burrow underground like in Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla.
