9. The HYDRA Stomper - What If...?
Though each episode of What If…? explored a completely new character in another facet of the multiverse, the final episode brought several of them together to form the Guardians of the Multiverse. This was the thread that connected the entire season.
Arguably the most popular of these characters was Peggy Carter. The show's First Avenger episode itself may have been underwhelming, but the lead character was excellent. She appeared in that episode, returned in the final episode, and also popped up in the show's only post-credits scene.
Upon returning to her own universe and reuniting with Natasha Romanoff, Black Widow showed Captain Carter exactly what the pirates they were fighting were after. This was the HYDRA Stomper armour designed by Howard Stark for Steve Rogers all those years ago, and there was someone still inside.
This will certainly lead into furthering the story of Peggy and Steve in Season 2, though exactly how this will go is anyone’s guess. There has to be more to it than just the two of them fighting side-by-side again, as that’s already been done.
