15. The Defenders: Season 1

Punisher Ghost Rider2
Netflix

This event series collected all of the Marvel/Netflix’s heroes and finally brought them together in a team-up. It was meant to be the epic culmination of a two-year build-up - unfortunately, the results fell short of expectations.

Several elements hamper proceedings; a slow pace that makes the 8 episodes length feel twice as long, The Hand being used as the villains yet again, plus some ridiculously awkward production quality. Most importantly though, it's all done with such a general lack of enthusiasm by all culprits.

When it works though, it works quite well; the ensemble has great charisma and banter, Iron Fist is vastly improved as a character and a handful fight scenes (most notably the Rand Corporation smash-up) make for fun watching. Also, Sigourney Weaver is classy and charismatic as the bad guy, regardless of them mucking up her plotline and its significance.

The early hype signalled that this would be the TV equivalent of The Avengers. Instead, it felt much more like a contractional obligation for the cast and show-runners before they could return to doing what they preferred; tackling these character's individually on there separate shows.

Watchable but also terribly forgettable.
