14. Marge Simpson

The Simpsons Guy Cutaway
Fox

Marge typically gets more involved than Lois (and obviously Maggie), but she still doesn’t have all that much going on in the grand scheme of things.

She’s occasionally good for a chuckle, but like Lois, is more often than not involved as a disappointed mother or angry wife. At least with Marge this comes off as realistic though, and without the mean spirited ‘aren’t moms and wives the worst?!’ shtick from Family Guy, which often falls flat in the Griffin household.

Because of this much sweeter tone of Marge’s motherly love, she’s able to be part of much deeper, more touching stories. The Simpsons Movie revolves around Marge leaving Homer for his selfishness; it’s hard to imagine this having as much impact with Lois & Peter.

Marge Be Not Proud is one of the best examples of this, as well mining the relationship between Marge and her special little guy for genuine drama.

All too often though, especially these days, her more focussed outings rely on her yet again having marital difficulties with Homer. This plot is used at least 4 times (with 3 other maybes) in Season 30, with I Want You (She’s So Heavy) being a quiet contender for their worst ever attempt.
