15. Star Trek Beyond (2016)

Star Trek Seven And Janeway
Paramount Pictures

Star Trek Beyond was the first movie in the rebooted timeline to really feel like The Original Series rather than an action movie. Of course, there's still plenty of action, but it's complemented by moments of funny banter between Spock and McCoy, interesting plot ideas, and the creative main villain, Krall, an ex-Starfleet Officer, turned mutated warlord.

In Beyond, the Enterprise crew interact with each other just like they did in The Original Series. In the two previous movies, they were much more moody and prone to throwing tantrums, likely because they were all way younger than they were in the prime universe. But in Beyond, the characters have had a chance to grow and find their places in the crew and it makes for much more natural relationships. As mentioned earlier, the conversations between Spock and McCoy are so reminiscent of their dynamic during The Original Series.

Beyond is a fun movie that feels just like classic Trek, but it sadly fails to bring anything new to the table. The story of a Starfleet Officer turned bad is cool, but its been done before, albeit, in slightly different ways.
