11. Star Trek (2009)

Old fans of Star Trek were livid at this movie when it came out. It's likely that many fans believed that this new, rebooted universe had come to replace the old one, forever erasing all of the Star Trek history we love. This is clearly not the case today, as Star Trek: Discovery, Prodigy, Lower Decks, and Picard all take place in the original prime timeline, separate from the reboot movies.

Fans also complained that the movie was too action-packed, not as cerebral as other Trek instalments, and rushed in order to introduce all of the characters and backstories. All of this is true, but it's because of these reasons that Star Trek (2009) was so great for getting new people into the franchise.

This was a Star Trek movie made for general audiences. That's why it did so well compared to other Trek movies. It was never meant to be a lore-heavy intellectual masterpiece, its job was to make Star Trek accessible to the average person and it did that job very well. Star Trek (2009) is a great action movie, but not a fan favourite.
