Every Star Trek Film & TV Show Ranked From Worst To Best
5. Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986)
The Voyage Home stands out from other Star Trek films as the funniest. Despite the story being about Kirk and the crew trying to save all of humanity, most of the movie is just them running around 1980s San Francisco, trying to find whales while saying and doing a bunch of hilarious things, clueless of how to act in that time period.
It's a total fish-out-of-water story, and is a wonderful change of pace towards a more comedic tone. The environmental message of preserving wildlife like whales is also very prominent in the film. Like most of Trek, The Voyage Home has no shame in being cliché and preachy.
Out of all of the Original Series films, the fourth instalment, The Voyage Home, is the funniest, most creative, and the most accessible to new fans, as the plot doesn't relate that heavily to the other movies. Even if you don't know Trek, it's still fun to watch these moralising astronauts from the future try to navigate modern life.
