Every Star Trek Reference In Futurama

12. Destruction Of Deep Space Nine In Teenage Mutant Leela's Hurdles

Star Trek Futurama
Fox

Teenage Mutant Leela's Hurdles features a big Star Trek reference in it. In the beginning, while The Professor is having his escaped Gargoyle, Pazuzu, he turns on the ships headlights/phasers. These hit and destroy a space station that looks suspiciously like Deep Space Nine.

The production staff made it clear in the DVD commentary that they think Deep Space Nine is one of the best Star Trek series and the destruction was not because they disliked the show.

The rest of the episode follows the crew getting de-aged after they take the professor to a youth spa. Leela uses this as an excuse to get the childhood she never had, going back to live with her parents as a now teenager. While she stays The Professor tries to solve the ageing problem and accidentally makes it worse, making him and the rest of the crew continue to de-age.

This leads to a scene in which Leela is forced to babysit the rest of the crew and reads them a children's book. One of the stories in the book is called CHarlotte's Tholian Web. This is a clear reference to The Original Series episode The Tholian Web.
