Every Star Trek Series Ranked Worst To Best
3. Voyager
Much can and has been said about the wonderful Jeri Ryan's introduction as Seven of Nine and her return in Star Trek Picard. But it was in Voyager that she cut her teeth on the role, firmly planting herself as part of a fantastic ensemble of characters. Kate Mulgrew's portrayal as Captain Janeway led this show through the prerequisite dodgy first couple of years and into the fans' hearts as one of the most beloved Trek entries.
One of the criticisms most often fired at Voyager was that it was very similar to the Next Generation in its style and tone. There is a degree of truth to that but that is also one of the show's strengths. This was Starfleet, lost in the Delta Quadrant and exploring strange new worlds. It was an adventure show but without any help from the rest of the Federation. It was a gamble that paid off dividends.
The show ran for seven seasons, developing a strong fandom and inspiring an upcoming documentary. It matched the Next Generation in one respect certainly. This crew was a family, as diverse as any but as close as any other. Maquis and Starfleet put aside their differences.
Klingon, Vulcan, Hologram and Borg all learn to be as one. With many stand out episodes along the way, Voyager was perhaps the best example of the search for strange new worlds out of the entire franchise, bearing the torch of Roddenberry for years after his sun finally set.
