Ever since Spider-Man swung into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the franchise has essentially milked the character for all that it can. There has been an entire trilogy of movies in a span of just five years, two Avengers appearances, an internet-breaking debut in Civil War, and even an appearance in What If…?

In spite of rumours and reports, Spidey’s time in the MCU is far from over, and this isn’t just in the form of Tom Holland. The Web-head will be returning to the franchise in the form of a Disney+ animated series detailing his life pre-Civil War.

Peter had been operating as Spider-Man for six months before Tony Stark picked him up, but do fans really need to see this time of his life? Marvel Studios managed to introduce its own iteration of the character without having to rehash the origin story, so why revisit it so many years later?

As much as there is intrigue around bringing back Charlie Cox’s Daredevil and introducing Norman Osborn as a mentor, the latter brings into question where exactly this fits into the MCU. It can’t be on Earth-616 as No Way Home confirmed that there was no Norman Osborn there, so there is a danger that this multiversal Spider-Man origin story could serve only to confuse fans.
