7. The Theme Song Was Originally Supposed To Be Superman By Five For Fighting
Of course, as brilliant as the opening credits are visually, they would be nothing without the music that goes so perfectly with them. The song that was ultimately used was 'I'm No Superman' by Lazlo Bane, put forward for consideration by Braff himself.
The actor was good friends with Chad Fischer, the lead singer for the band, whom he later worked with on his directing debut Garden State, and recommended the song because it perfectly captured the essence of the show. JD couldn't do it all on his own, he needed the support of friends like Elliott, Turk, and Dr. Cox among others.
Originally though the song was going to be 'Superman' by Five for Fighting. As well as the titles being almost the same, the two songs both covered very similar ideas around not being enough on your own. Eventually the showrunners went with Lazlo Bane, but Five for Fighting's 100 Years would be used five years later in the episode 'My Half-Acre'.
