Falcon & The Winter Soldier: 10 Biggest Problems
1. It's Got Quite A Few Of The MCU's Worst Habits
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a very accomplished and well-executed franchise, but there are a few flaws that recur across its films. These include: Low stakes, no risk-taking, overfamiliarity, unremarkable film-making and a generally safe vibe.
Unfortunately, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has many of these common MCU mistakes and thus feels like a summation of the worst parts of this largely excellent franchise.
Prior to the brutal ending of episode four, the show is an undemanding work that doesn't take any risks or do anything very creative. Of course, those issues are resolved in the final two episodes, but flat filmmaking and the sense that no-one is in any danger hang over all the episodes.
One hopes the upcoming films and TV shows in the MCU's Phase 4 will avoid these mistakes, and there is reason to be optimistic. WandaVision avoided most of these errors and most of the upcoming Phase 4 releases sound interesting and creative.
Hopefully, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will just be a blip (sorry) and not a sign of things to come.
