3. Used Dylan To Become A Writer
It might have made sense to put ‘be a bad father’ on the list here, but that’s a little too abstract an idea. Also, while Brian isn’t hugely deserving of leeway, calling him a bad father might be a little harsh. He isn’t even aware of Dylan’s existence until his son is a teenager, and even though he’s a brat Brian does have moments of bonding with him.
However, once Dylan gets moderate success with a TV show, Brian’s more typical behaviours come out. Brian gets Dylan to wrangle him a job on the writing staff, but even that’s not enough. Brian immediately begins to rock the boat and makes the show edgier, completely ignoring the show’s original vision.
He does this without a shred of awareness, despite being so enraged when James Woods did the same thing in What I Learned On Jefferson Street.
As soon as Brian’s behaviour gets him nixed from the show, he goes right back to having a distant, uninvolved and selfish relationship with Dylan again.
He’s similarly selfish with Stewie’s play, but at least that time Stewie self sabotages to comfort Brian. Still, a lot of drama around Brian’s inadequacy.
