Abraham Lincoln once said, "Nearly all mean can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power". Peter and his family have always been on the lower end of the economic scale. So, when Peter is given wealth, his true character is revealed.

In the season ten episode "Lottery Fever", Peter comes up with the brilliant idea of playing the lottery. After purchasing forty-thousand tickets, The Griffins get lucky and win the grand prize. Ecstatic with their new fortune, the family begin to spend their fortune recklessly.

The power of wealth quickly corrupts Peter and after loaning money to both Quagmire and Joe, Peter forces them to perform the Eddie Cantor classic "Making Whoopee". During their performance, Peter fires a pellet gun at Joe's eye and blinds him. Angry, Peter's friends storm out of the theatre.

When the Griffins lose everything, Joe and Quagmire help them buy back their house. Even after the torture they endured, Joe and Quagmire decide to help Peter - an act that speaks volumes about their characters.
