John Herbert, typically known as Herbert the Pervert, is a local pedophile who is obsessed with Chris Griffin. The character has been a mainstay on the show since the third season, and is often used either in Chris-centric plots or as a gag based on his disgusting tendencies.

The most interesting plotline for Herbert came from the episode "German Guy" where he saves Chris and Peter from a Nazi war veteran and reveals his patriotism and his service in World War II.

However, for a character that is so often used for gags and plotlines, Herbert is one of the most uncomfortable characters that frequently appear in the series. Pedophilia is a topic that is hard to take lightly, and while some gags may work as small jokes the character overall falls into the uncomfortable and unfunny territory.
