Fargo Season 3: 8 Things We Already Know
3. The Character Names Are As Wacky As Ever
Even for Midwesterners, the characters in Fargo sure have some interesting names, but season three seems to be taking thing to the next level. Carrie Coon plays ‘Gloria Burgle’, a divorced mother and local police chief who is probably staunchly anti-burglary. Other such bizarre titles include Nikki Swango (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Ray Stuss’s girlfriend and a keen competitive bridge player, V.M Vargas (David Thewlis), a mysterious capitalist loner, and Donny Mashman (Jim Gaffigan), Gloria’s deputy.
Other highlights include ‘Sy Feltz’, ‘Maurice LeFay’, ‘Moe Dammick’, ‘Dr. Homer Gilruth’, and perhaps best of all, ‘Thaddeus Mobley’, an award winning sci-fi writer played by Thomas Mann.
As the show's resident law enforcer, Gloria is apparently season three's moral centre, and events will revolve around her crumbling personal life. When discussing the character at the Television Critics Association, Coon said: “She is trying to hang on to who she is inside of what’s happening in the macrocosm in the world she’s policing. I think she is representing decency and ethics — how successful she is is what I think the show is asking this season.”
As for Winstead, her character's name is probably a dead giveaway as to why she's come into contact with the law. Winstead has described her as somebody with "the capacity to be conniving, but she has a heart."
