Fear The Walking Dead: 10 Things You Need To Know About The Spin-Off
9. The Government Are The Bad Guys
Which means that, at least in this pilot script (which is where the name Fear The Walking Dead comes from; Cobalt was always just a codeword that AMC were using to talk about the top secret project in private), the principal antagonists aren't the hordes of the undead that plague the crew over in the main show. Because, well, there aren't any zombies to contend with yet. Instead, from the looks of it, the government are going to be the ones that are screwing the main characters over. Obviously, they don't want to incite panic. In fact, one of the early scenes in the script is a CDC Virologist appearing on TV, dispelling rumours that the infected are not the dead walking. So people know there's some weird disease going on, but not the nature of it. What's interesting is how the show plays on the audience's knowledge of what's going on, having seen the main Walking Dead series, ie that they most definitely are the dead coming to life to devour the living, and that based on the first season's finale the CDC might be responsible, and have no way of fixing it, either.
