Fear The Walking Dead: 10 Things You Need To Know About The Spin-Off

8. It's A Period Piece

Right now there are some interesting things happening on television with regards to time. Sixties-set shows like Mad Men are nothing new, but now we're beginning to see period pieces where series are set a couple of years in the past or future. Thanks to our quickly-evolving culture and technology, that actually makes a pretty big difference. Take, for example, this last series of Parks And Recreation that just started: they skipped two years into the future, meaning the characters all possess a cultural lexicon and gadgets that are semi-unrecognisable. Fear The Walking Dead skips a few years back, since the original series premiered in 2010. Presumably, then, Fear The Walking Dead takes place in 2010. Or even earlier, depending on when Rick Grimes went into his coma. Which means a scene of people filming the €œinfected€ on their tablets specifies that they're using original iPads €“ tragically, they'll never get a chance to use an iPad Mini.
