Fear The Walking Dead: 10 Things You Need To Know About The Spin-Off

6. Walkers Begin As An Urban Legend

Jumping backwards in the chronology of the zombie apocalypse that has befallen the world of The Walking Dead is interesting for a bunch of reasons. Besides having the CDC pedalling what the established audience know are bare-faced lies and the cool use of old cultural reference points, the walkers are not going to be the known menace/nuisance they are in the main show. In fact, Fear The Walking Dead has a chance to live up to that title. Giving how inept the shambling hordes of the undead are in the main series, the spin-off could finally give them their due as actual credible threats €“ and terrifying ones to boot. The idea of €œinfected€ is well-established in the script, but walkers? Not so much. The CDC Virologist is dispelling rumours of the walking dead because at this point, that's exactly what they are: rumours. In the early days of the plague, zombies are more like an urban legend, stories passed on from a friend-of-a-friend, since there aren't that many of them. In The Walking Dead, they outnumber humanity 5000 to 1. You can bet that when they do start showing up, it's going to be pretty scary.
