Fear The Walking Dead: 10 Things You Need To Know About The Spin-Off

4. There Are Some Hot Button Issues

Speaking of which, a lot of the time Fear The Walking Dead has more in common with an after school special than a zombie show. The lack of undead action in the early portions of the script that leaked focus less on the horror element and more on the family drama, a thing that the main show tend to favour over constant buckets of gore. Which makes sense for a serialised show. It'd get exhausting if it was just ceaseless escaping from walkers. Plus the whole point of the title is that it's the survivors who are the actual €œwalking dead€. Most good drama in a zombie story comes not from the monsters themselves, but how people react to it. From the looks of Fear The Walking Dead, there's plenty enough drama going on with the principal characters before civilisation collapses. Drugs, illness and self-harm, all play apart in the pilot, with each of the principal cast suffering from some sort of hot button topic.
