8. Cast And Characters
Cliff Curtis (Trauma) and Kim Dickens (House of Cards, Gone Girl) are leading the cast, as Travis Manawa, a divorced teacher, and Madison Clark, a guidance counsellor and Travis' fiancee. Curtis has
described his character as being an "everyday guy...a bit of an anti-hero in the sense that hes really not prepared for it and hes not geared up in that way...You know, hes not like a walking action hero type." Robert Kirkman, executive producer,
described the character of Madison as a single mother, whose husband died, that has an "inherent strength...that makes her in some ways uniquely adapted to live in the zombie apocalypse," continuing that she is a very warm and kind person as well. Travis' family will consist of his ex-wife Liza, played by Orange is the New Black's Elizabeth Rodriguez, and his tearaway son Chris (Lorenzo James Henrie). Meanwhile Madison will have two children of her own: Alicia, a smart and determined teenager, played by Alycia Debnam-Carey, and Nick (Frank Dillane), who's a problem child with serious drug problems. Rounding out the cast is the Salazar family, Daniel, a barber, his very religious wife, Griselda, and their daughter Ofelia. Daniel will be portrayed by Ruben Blades, while Patricia Reyes Spínoza and Mercedes Mason will be Griselda and Ofelia respectively.
