A common complaint among DC fans is how the company seems to be really into making its heroes gritty by placing them in an ultra-realistic environment. Whether it is The Dark Knight Trilogy, Man of Steel, Arrow or the upcoming films in DCs Cinematic Universe, its quite obvious they like making gritty superhero dramas. However, The Flash seems to be a breath of fresh air in this regard, adopting a much lighter tone than Arrow with a stronger focus on humour as well. Even the majority of footage shown takes place in the daytime, as opposed to most of Arrow's night-based hijinks. This is an uplifting sign as Flash is one of the lighter superheroes in DCs stable; he has fun being a superhero, often quipping witty remarks to both his superpowered allies and most of his villains. When he gets down to it, though, he does get serious and is willing to lay down his life to save the day which makes him a very underestimated character in the DC Universe.
