2. What Was Dan Anderssen Doing At The Murder Scene?
Now that both of the police investigations are underway all the finer points of the murder are starting to see daylight. After being incarcerated for seemingly no reason whatsoever, Vincent gets word to DCI Morton that when he arrived at the scene, he found that Dan Anderssen was already there. Given that Vincent had to smash his way through a glass window to gain entry to the property, finding the sheriff in there with no other signs of a forced entry is suspicious in the extreme. Although, if he was up to no good, surely he'd have just killed Vincent as well instead of saving him from an impending dog attack. There are only two plausible reasons for his presence; either he was already there when the murder took place, or he found about it before anyone else did. Both open up a proverbial Pandora's box of plot lines. He's got previous though, the opening scene of the whole story sees the sheriff popping up, seemingly out of nowhere, at the grizzly death of Billy Pettigrew. Nobody's that lucky, surely.
