9. How Did DCI Morton Get To Fortitude So Quickly?
In what was almost a throw-away comment in the first episode, it's revealed that the good detective's travel arrangements were as peculiar as the town he now finds himself in. Assisting Petra with the post-mortem, she remarks that if indeed he's flow in from London, and with a body that was only declared dead 12 hours prior, he would have had to have left while it was still alive. Morton, ever the smooth talker, merely comments how advanced her English is and moves on with the procedure. DCI Morton, an American working in London, has been sent to conduct an individual investigation on behalf of the victim's family - except he's already started to concern himself with both the death of Billy Pettigrew, and the examination of the discovered mammoth's tooth. Thorough, perhaps, but probably not the most pressing issues in a murder investigation. There's almost certainly more to Morton than he's let on so far, and understanding where he came from is probably the key to it.
