Friday Night Lights Cast: Where Are They Now?

10. Zach Gilford (Matt Saracen)

Friday Night Lights Jesse Plemons
NBC

Zach Gilford’s Matt Saracen was something like the audience surrogate for the first season of FNL, the sensitive but ambitious, atypical football player thrown in at the deep end after a catastrophic injury to the Panthers’ starting quarterback.

Gilford proved himself to be one of the best actors on the show, more than capable of stepping up in emotionally demanding episodes like “The Good Son”, about the loss of Saracen’s father. With this in mind it’s surprising that he hasn’t found higher profile roles in his career.

He has starred in films like In Our Nature, a respectable indie effort with John Slattery, and a handful of horror sequels or curios like Devil’s Due, and the second film in the highly successful Purge series, but his last movie was in 2014.

He has worked consistently on TV, with series regular roles on the likes of Good Girls and L.A’s finest, but given the talents of the performer, it’s a little disappointing that the more interesting roles and projects don’t seem to come his way.
