3. The One With The Male Nanny (S9 E6)
Things just keep getting worse and worse for Ross Geller the more you actually examine his character. From thinking he had some right to claim Rachel, to dating Elizabeth, picturing his mom in bed, and now (not even finally), homophobia.
When he and Rachel were trying to find a nanny for Emma they struggled. Their hopes were raised by Sandy, who on paper was perfectly qualified and who made a great impression with Rachel, but the only problem was that Ross didn’t like the fact that he was a male.
He asked in a very accusing manner whether Sandy was gay, like his occupation had the least bit to do with his sexuality, and when he cried after being offered the job, Ross ascertained that he had to be “at least bi”. These characters were supposed to be lovable, but the ball just kept getting dropped with Ross.
Sandy was incredibly understanding with Ross and the disrespect and insults thrown his way, when really he should have walked out and never spoken to the man again. Much of Friends hasn’t aged particularly well, and this episode is right up there with the worst of them.
