Friends: 10 Ways It Should Have Ended
7. We Should Have Seen Monica And Chandler Be A Family
What Happened
It was great that we finally got over the ongoing joke of Chandler’s fear of commitment, and it was lovely seeing him and Monica start a family together; but the writers didn’t give us much in the way of rounding off this storyline.
What Should Have Happened
Both Chandler and Monica’s characters developed as a result of the Erica surrogacy storyline, but it could have ended in a much more satisfactory way. Chandler and Monica were never told they absolutely couldn't have children, they were told it would be difficult.
The surrogacy allowed Chandler to grow up a little – though the addition of a surprise twin at the very last minute gave us another opportunity to doubt his ability to handle adult life. We didn’t need this opportunity; we needed to see Chandler being a Dad, still being his sarcastic self but with added Dad dancing.
It also allowed Monica to stop being such a control freak, which was endearing and made her much more likeable. What would have been perfect though, would have been the one baby surrogacy we expected, and Monica being pregnant.
Plus Courtney Cox was pregnant in real life so this wasn't exactly a big leap for the writers to make.
