Season 8 Episode 23 & 24 Another double header - understandably given that the occasion of Rachel finally having her baby was where the entire season was leading - and a brilliant sting in the tale as Joey accidentally trumped Ross' intention to get back with Rachel by accidentally proposing to her. The twin episodes followed Rachel's extended labour and the rest of the cast's attempts to entertain themselves in the hospital, with Joey attempting to help Phoebe hook up with a patient by pretending to be his doctor, and Monica and Chandler deciding off the cuff to start trying for a baby immediately. There's nothing like the present, after all. Aside from the last episode, this was the most watched finale of any Friends season, and set up the most successful cliffhanger - as well as featuring easily the funniest cameo of the entire show when Janice ends up sharing Rachel's birthing suite.
