Futurama: 10 Best Zoidberg Moments
1. Zoidberg's Backstory And Why He's Never Been Fired
In the episode “The Tip of Zoidberg” the gang finally lose their patience with the lobster and demand Zoidberg be fired. However, we are finally given the answer on why the Professor has never made him redundant, and also the history of Zoidberg’s service to the company.
It is all based on an agreement between the Doctor and the Professor which was formed over 50 years ago when the two of them befriended each other whilst working for Mom. During a mission to kill a Tritonian Yeti, Zoidberg is attacked by a Yeti but is saved by Hubert Farnsworth, who sustains a scratch from it in the process. He believes he has contracted Hyper-Malaria – a painfully incurable disease which either strikes instantly or remains inactive for years. He asks Zoidberg to kill him, should he ever show the symptoms, to which they both agree.
In the present time, the signs of having Hyper-Malaria have begun. Farnsworth confides in Zoidberg to perform the murder, but do it in a way that'll take Farnsworth completely off-guard, since he is scared of death. The Planet Express team discover him attempting to murder Hubert and lock him away, forcing the Professor to explain Zoidberg’s actions.
Isolated, Zoidberg makes a discovery of a single white hair in the Professor’s lab coat which leads him to believe he may actually have been suffering from Yetiism, a condition which literally turns you into a yeti. He turns to Mom to acquire the Yeti’s head for a pineal gland as an antidote. He has nothing to offer back except for a tanning coupon, and since Mom has such respect for him, she accepts. Zoidberg acts just in time to save the Professor from death/Yetiism.
It’s a fantastic Zoidberg-based episode for various reasons, as it highlights all the best characteristics of the lobster: loyal, surprisingly smart and how he isn't materialistic.
