Futurama: 10 Best Zoidberg Moments
"Horaaaaay! WhatCulture is talking about me!" - Doctor John Zoidberg, 2020.
Zoidberg is the long-serving Doctor of The Planet Express Company, but with a very low understanding of the human anatomy as well as living in poverty, despite his high profession.
He is probably the friendliest and most positive-minded member of the Planet Express staff crew who only yearns to have company beside him whilst filling his stomach with food. His lack of popularity can be attributed to his pungent body odour and sometimes overbearing personality. Ignoring his lethal smell, we all want Zoidberg as our friend – he’s loyal, non-judgmental and open-minded to anything.
He may have been despised by his co-workers but fans of Futurama have always adored Doctor Zoidberg (although if we were viewing through the 2950s invention of the smell-o-vision, he may not have had such a devoted fanbase). He’s not had the easiest experience living in the 31st Century but it all happily works out for the Doctor eventually.
It’s agreed that Futurama would be missing that extra spark without Zoidberg as a supporting character. He’s provided some of the best plotlines and he’s often the one to bring light of out the crew’s darkest situations. Let’s look back at some of the crustacean’s finest moments.
10. 500 Feet Zoidberg Vs. 500 Feet Bender
In the episodic style of Anthology of Interest I, we are given a trilogy of imaginary stories which are too wild to be real in the society of the 31st Century. One includes Bender as a 500-foot giant version of himself who befriends the regular sized Fry. His behaviour is too destructive for New New York so it calls for military action, but even they can’t take down the gigantic robot. The Professor believes he can take down Bender with an equally big monster so he enlarges Zoidberg to 500 feet tall.
Unfortunately, living a life of neglect and being bullied, Zoidberg abuses his powers and acts destructively. In a Godzilla style ending, he and Bender face off in a showdown, using much of the city properties to their advantage. Zoidberg is pushed into a vat of hot water but is able to arise, even angrier, and chops off Bender’s feet. He falls back and is impaled by The Empire State Building.
Zoidberg is victorious… but only for a moment, as the entire saga was just a figment of The What If machine.
