Futurama: 10 Character Fates Worse Than Death

5. Having Your Child Forget You

The laws of robotics are vague and confusing in Futurama, which allowed Bender and Bev the vending machine to come together and have a child. Named Ben, after the first part of Bender, the robot child brought out a whole new caring and loving side to his father.

As much as Planet Express' resident robot loved his son, this was reciprocated and then some. Ben looked up to his dad and wanted to follow in his footsteps. Unfortunately, since his mother didn't have any arms, Ben wasn't a natural bender, no matter how hard he tried.

The only way this could be achieved was to remove his memory cartridge and replace it with a bending cartridge. Ben could become a great bender and go to bending school, but he would forget who his dad was.

When Bender told him he'd made his old man proud, Ben simply told him that he never knew his father. What a cruel choice that was put in front of Bender. He sacrificed his own happiness and relationship with his son, just so that Ben could achieve his dream of being a great bender.
