Futurama: 10 Character Fates Worse Than Death

4. Loss Of Free Will

One of the things Earthicans are most proud of in the 31st Century is their freedom. The flag is lovingly called Ol' Freebie, and they have one day every year to celebrate such freedom by doing whatever they want without a thought of the consequences.

However, there are several ways in the future in which a person's free will and freedom can be taken away from them. As a robot, Bender may not have ever actually had free will, but there are few things worse than being a human and having it taken away.

On more than one occasion Hermes had his mind overtaken by brain slugs. Since there is a whole planet of these things, and an Earthican political group based around them, though Hermes was ultimately able to break free of its grasp, there are likely countless people that weren't.

When Yivo came to Earth shkle inserted shkler tentacles into almost everyone on the planet, taking over their minds and bodies, and Mom turned between one and two million people into her own personal zombies thanks to her Twitcher app. It's safe to say that you're never truly safe in the year 3000.

This standard nerd combines the looks of Shaggy with the brains of Scooby, has an unhealthy obsession with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and is a firm believer that Alter Bridge are the greatest band in the world.
