Futurama: 10 Things It Did Better Than The Simpsons
1. Bender Bending Rodriguez
If you watch The Simpsons and then hop on over to check out Futurama, you will find a great many analogues for each character. Bender is something of a combination of Homer, Barnie, and Bart, but when you get right down to it, Bender is his own unique character. He is so much a part of the series, he gets his own entry on this list.
The show appears to be about Fry and his adventures in the 31st-Century, but much of the action revolves around Bender with a good chunk of the episode entirely surrounding him and his actions.
Bender has the most fleshed-out and deepest character, he possesses the most character flaws, but disregards them or doesn't see them, he has an ego that drove an entire civilization into ruin, and his action removed humanity from a literal Heaven.
It's impossible to compare Bender to anyone on The Simpsons simply because there is no comparison. Homer has similar traits, to be sure, but everything Homer can do, Bender can do better, worse, and far funnier. As the robot puts it himself, "Bender is great," and there really is no way to dispute that.
