Futurama: 10 Worst Things Bender Has Ever Done

For all that Bender is possibly the most popular character from Matt Groening’s animated sitcom, he’s easily the worst person in the show. Though Bean from Disenchantment and Homer (from The Simpsons, obviously) are both heavy drinkers too, Bender is the least moral leading character in any of the Groening cartoons. And yes, that includes Luci - a literal demon - from Disenchantment too.

His heart is in the right place, a lot of the time, but he’s still obnoxious, mean, impulsive and a liquor slamming thief at the end of the day. In some of these entries, he’s either trying to do the right thing in a completely horrible way, or recants and saves the day by the end of the episode. Other times though, he’s just being horrible because he wants to.

Though the episode quality was criticised when Comedy Central revived the show, the character development was still pretty solid. Because of that, there’s a healthy mix of original episodes, the movies and the revival era. Through all those years, Bender never changed his ways, but that’s exactly why we all love him.

This entry is pretty tame by Bender’s standards, but that just goes to show you what his standards are like. It’s a quick throwaway gag in the episode where the crew explore the internet (only for Leela to falsely think she’s found her long lost home planet), but it’s still a fairly awful thing to do to your co-workers.

They stumble across a website called ‘Amy Wong Naked’, to which Amy naturally gets offended. Bender admits he uploaded the pictures, but that it’s only Amy’s head on someone else’s body. Leela’s reaction upon leaning inside suggests it’s in fact the cyclops’ body he’s using.

This raises several questions though. How did Bender have Leela’s naked photos? Why put Amy’s face on them? Why was Leela taking naked photos in the first place? This might be slightly overthinking a cheap gag.

Bender’s whole conduct online is both hilarious and terrible though. He poses as a sexy nurse and charges money in a chat room, only to start a conversation about the Knicks. At least he doesn’t obliterate the only other known Cyclops like Fry does. Although it does turn out the Cyclops is an alien scammer, so it was for the best, really.
