Futurama: 10 Worst Things Bender Has Ever Done

4. Be A Terrible Pharaoh

Desperate to be remembered, Bender changes an ancient prophecy carving to make himself Pharaoh of an Egyptian themed planet. Insisting on a gargantuan statue is tacky in the extreme, and then asking for it to be torn down and rebuild a slightly smaller so the statue doesn’t overshadow him is just plain insulting.

Even that doesn’t tell the whole story, as it ignores the most heinous fact of the matter; the whole thing was built by slaves. While there’s obviously never any justification for slavery, there is some logic for this missing out on the medal places in Bender’s hall of shame.

For one thing, to start with Bender is a slave himself, and even then insists the slave drivers aren’t working the slaves hard enough. This suggests that his cruelty as Pharaoh comes from wanting more efficiently built monuments rather than a sadistic need to exert his power. A small redeemer, but it offers redemption nonetheless.

There’s also the fact that Bender completely misunderstands the previous Pharaoh’s wish that the slaves be freed. The whole thing seems like a cry for help or attention, but that doesn’t make it any better. Fry, at least, makes a hilarious slave.
