2. Did The Common Cold Leave New York?
Some of these have gone across various different episodes of the show, and sometimes you might be willing to forgive those sorts of gaps across a long running series. Considering Futurama is already juggling being set 1000 years in the future and the complexities of the sci-fi genre, that goes doubly so.
In Cold Warriors though, there’s a rather large plot hole which never gets explained. Fry gets the common cold, which due to the disease having been wiped out, turns out to be incredibly dangerous to everyone else. Initially the crew are quarantined to the Planet Express building, before Bender breaks it and the disease spreads through Manhattan.
The island is then wrapped in massive shrink wrap then launched into space. Leaving aside how similar the containment is to The Simpsons Movie, there is a glaring flaw in Cold Warriors. Once the disease starts to spread, Linda and Morbo the News Monster are shown to be suffering from it too.
However, despite seeming to report on New New York goings on more than you’d think, it’s been firmly established that the news is filmed in an LA studio. Quite a big oversight.
