In Why Must I Be a Crustacean in Love, Bender is taking bets on a fight between Zoidberg and Fry, and he calls Zoidberg "The Great Red Hope. This is a reference to boxer James J. Jeffries who was known as The Great White Hope when he fought Jack Johnson in 1910.
