Futurama: Every Planet Express Crew Member Ranked
2. Phillip Fry
As mentioned in the Leela entry, the show was led by three central characters, but Fry is the protagonist more than the other two. He gets the most storylines, we see the ‘future’ (the present to everyone else) through his eyes, and his dorky personality serves up a lot of laughs too.
Really though, it’s on an emotional level where Fry truly shines. Several moments, like moving the stars, 'u leave me breathless', his opera and going around again involve Leela, but he has other tearjerkers too. Seymour is the most well known example, but revisiting his mother’s dream and finding out Yancy named his son after him are up there as well.
While Futurama earned its reputation as a sitcom with substance largely through Fry, it’s not as if he neglected the comedy side of things either. In most shows, he’d be the funniest character by a mile, but there’s one Futurama character who just had to be top.
He becomes a little less funny in the Comedy Central era when his stupidity gets so extreme that he forgets his own name, and blames Earth when he falls off his chair, but these are minor dents.
